Atari 2600 - The Cleansing (status update)

While I'm still stuck in the late 80's looking through MAME Roms, I've just completed the bulk of a side-track mission to cleanse/organize my Atari 2600 ROMs for the Z26 emu. I've tossed clone after clone (no, I don't need 3 PAL versions *and* 4 NTSC versions of the same crappy game!). I've also tried to standardize their naming format to have the name of the game and (where available) the year and company of origin. I will probably have one final pass at browsing through them all in MAMEWAH to see which ones still have no artwork displaying for cartridge, screenshot, or box... Then I'll have to scan thru those in the appropriate artwork folders to see if art exists and if so, fix its name to match the root of the ROM name itself.

Total pain in the ass, but it's really the only way I can see it possible to browse MAMEWAH with art for everything possible. Once that's finished the only remaining step will be to customize the default art for games who really don't have any images available.

The prospect of doing this for every emulator I want to use makes adding emus seem like less fun than I thought. Getting ROMs is only part of the battle -- having them organized and easily navigable is a royal pain. Granted it's only a few minutes to use the MAMEWAH Config 1.6.1 utility to add them to the MAMEWAH interface menu; but to make it truly look awesome (and help illustrate what some of the more obscure games are supposed to be before launching them), it's going to be a very long haul. Thankfully I've got a strong anal-retentive streak (and the patience to do this over the next year or so) -- this means that one day I'll have a config of everything I'm truly happy with.
